WINTER IN AASIAAT

Our winter season runs from November to April

The phrase winter wonderland has perhaps never been so apt to describe a place as Aasiaat during the off season. Mountains of snow line every walkway, and the colorful wooden houses that surround the lake make beautiful contrasts to the thick sheets of white.

Often, tourists are discouraged by the long periods of darkness that occur in the deep winter. But those nights needn’t feel so dark when illuminated by the dancing green lights of the spectacular Aurora Borealis. On a clear winter’s night in Aasiaat, one needs only glance out the window to see one of the world’s most enchanting natural phenomenons take place.

Another of the season’s most popular pastimes is dog sledding – a sport that today exists in only a few corners of the world. During the winter months, inhabitants of northern Greenland exchange their sailboats for sleds and take to the frozen lakes. A unique and exhilarating experience. As a chance to see the spectacular scenery of Aasiaat in wintertime and to appreciate all the town has to offer, we have included dog sledding in many of our Winter Packages.
