About Greenlandic Dinner

For much of the Western world, “clean eating” has become a fad trend. For the Inuit people of northern Greenland, it has long been a way of life. Subsistence hunting is a tradition that has been passed down through the generations, and sourcing your own food is commonplace even today.
In recent years Danish and Canadian influences have begun to appear in Greenlandic kitchens, but because of the country’s isolated location and difficult weather conditions, importing goods is costly and local people still rely heavily on the same staples that fed their ancestors.
Meat and fish make up the majority of the Greenlandic diet, with an emphasis placed on hearty food that provides the necessary fuel for living an active, outdoor life, often in harsh weather conditions. The three major hunting seasons in Aasiaat include narwhal, musk ox and reindeer, with other game such as seal available year-round.
The Experience

Join a local family for a three-course dinner, our hosts will prepare your choice of traditional Greenlandic dishes and can even teach you how to make them. Sample local delicacies such as fried musk ox meat or seal stew, and wash it down with a Greenlandic beer or a glass of wine. You may choose to dine in one of the colorful wooden houses for which Aasiaat is famed, or even in the outdoors, where you can take in the vast horizon whilst sampling the local cuisine.

This experience is much a cultural one as a culinary one. Spend an evening with Aasiaat natives and learn about life in northern Greenland as you break bread with
new friends.
