Dogsled Racing Season Off To A Start!
Nearly the whole town of Aasiaat turned up on Saturday morning to watch some of the best, when they headed out with their teams in a race to stir up the excitement for the upcoming championships in April.
Rugged up in their best warm clothing to hold out in the brisk -17°C Easterly winds, people from all over the area headed up behind the school. Many took watch from the Café at the top of the hill though many others climbed some of the tall mountains of the area to get a fantastic 360° vantage.
As the race came to an end the winning team #13 soared in with a massive 2 minute lead. Although technically they had been outshone by one of the dogs who had been cut loose a little while before, there was no doubt to the victor of this exciting early season spectacle!
Aasiaat is well known for its dog racing season and we're expecting a huge turn out in April to enjoy some of the best races of the year.
