Whale Safari

Meet the gentle giants of Aasiaat bay.
About Whale Safaris

Around 15 different species of whales have made their home in Greenland, where the arctic climate provides the perfect summer habitat for these majestic mammals. The most common sightings include humpback whales – recognizable for their signature tail flick often captured in photographs, the ginormous fin whale – the world’s second largest animal, beaten only by the blue whale, and the more illusive minke whale, which is sometimes seen jumping from the water.

Aasiaat is often referred to as “The Town of Whales” by other Greenlanders because of the large population of marine life. During peak season they can often be spotted even from the shores, but of course to get your best chance at a sighting you have to take to the waters.

The Experience

Humpbacks and belugas and fin whales, oh my! Say hello to Aasiaat’s gentle giants as you set sail across the bay and on to the open sea. Aasiaat is one of the top places in Greenland for whale watching - especially with the help of our guides, all of whom are all locals and know the best spots for sightings.

On this tour, you’ll spend two hours out on the water, soaking up the sun and keeping a sharp eye out for a fin or two emerging from beneath the waters. Routes will vary day by day, as our ship crew monitor activity and take you to the where all the action is.
